£111,000 Lottery Funding

The Big Lottery Fund awarded us a grant of £111,217 to fund the 'Living for Today' programme for the next five years; this started in August 2009.  'Living for Today' is a programme for people with an illness that is progressive and unlikely to be curable, and for carers who are looking after someone with this type of illness.

The 'Living for Today' programme was developed in 2007 by Hospice at Home West Cumbria.  Its original intention was to help patients who are coming to terms with an illness that is progressive and unlikely to be curable.  We wanted to help them to adjust to their new situation, and assist them to get the most out of life.

Funding from national charity 'Help the Hospices' enabled us to develop a similar but separate programme for the carers of these patients, and to run these programmes for 18 months until end July 2009.

The lottery funding will cover the costs of delivering 'Living for Today' programmes for patients and for carers until August 2013.  We're absolutely delighted that we are able to continue running these popular and successful programmes which enhance participants' wellbeing and help them to live life to the full.
